Another blog post

I almost ate an entire watermelon yesterday after descending a mountain.

I’m pretty sure couchsurfers are staying here tonight.

I will be in Egypt in late may, then back in Cyprus, and then around May 30th I believe i am starting my euro-trip in Paris. I suppose i’ll then see some other parts of France and Switzerland, then Norway and Sweden, flying home from Stockholm on June 28th. This trip has been hard to figure out, but I think i’m making progress. Of course i want to see everything, but realistically I don’t want to see too much (relative to my time there, although a month is long enough to see a lot). I think 4 countries is ideal. I’ve been drawn to Norway for a while. I think i’d particularly enjoy the fjords. There are supposedly some incredible train voyages (Oslo to Bergen, 7.5 hours). I’ve never been particularly drawn to France, probably because I was never exposed much to French food, and the French aren’t given a great image (especially in regards to their supposed hatred of Americans). But i’ve reconsidered. I speak french (decently well) and i think i’d particularly enjoy it there (I enjoy everywhere).

Montagnola, Switzerland is a pretty small picturesque town bordering Italy. This is where Hermann Hesse lived and found composure. I read Hesse before i came to Cyprus, and more when I got here. I took a hiatus but now i’m going to start Steppenwolf. I may even reread Siddhartha- one of the most significant reads of my life- in the place where it was written.

This stage of my life is about refining composure. I don’t want to sight-see really; I want to have experiences that will foster my relationship with myself and my environment. I want to experience lasting inner tranquility. I want to learn to clear my mind, “feel infinite”, experience Atman and Brahman as one in the same, or none of these things. I don’t want much, but I think it’s important to experience new things and places; that seems like a noble use of time and money. So this is why i’m in Cyprus right now. This is why people have bucket-lists. We know progress is rarely made from staying still.
